
DAVAO CITY – Davao City Mayor and presidential daughter Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio announced Tuesday that she would start a Trust Fund for Covid-19 frontliners in the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC). Duterte-Carpio is also head of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on Covid-19.
As start up, she plans do donate her one-year salary amounting to Php 2.1 million to make it rolling. “Nakita ko ang pangangailangan ng mga medical frontliner sa SPMC lalo na sa mga nahawa sa sakit na Covid-19 na galing sa kanilang mga pasyente. Dahil nito, nais kong magtatag ng isang Trust Fund para sa kanila. Ibibigay ko ang aking sahod sa isang taon na mahigit Php 2 milyon,” said the city mayor in Cebuano.
Dr. Leonardo Vega, head of SPMC was elated on the announcement of the mayor. He said it would be a great boost to the morale of those who are in the frontline against Covid-19 pandemic knowing the reputation of the Duterte’s in fulfilling their promises to the poor and government workers who are doing their tasks well.
“So far, more than 20 of our frontliners at SPMC have been infected by Covid-19 since the city was on community quarantine on March 19. Many of them are bread winners and they need all the help we can muster to sustain them emotionally and economically,” Dr. Vega said.
Mayor Duterte-Carpio plans to give Php 50,000 to each family of positive frontliners as initial support to them as well as other forms of assistance from the Trust Fund to bridge them over from their difficult situation.
“Magbigay ako ng tig-Php 50,000 bawat pamilya over and above sa ibang assistance na makukuha nila sa mga ahensiya sa government”, he further said.
She again reminded Dabawenyos to stay home and to avoid contacts with other people as much as possible and to follow lawful orders from local authorities. Davao City is among the few cities in the country with improved performance in terms of containing the spread of the disease.
