TESDA urges displaced workers and youth to take up online courses

MANILA—Senator Imee Marcos estimated that about one million micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will be out of operation or simply slowing down once the enhanced community quarantine is lifted in most parts of the country. MSMEs employ about 50-60 percent of the total workforce and their departure to the business scene will be a big blow to the already precarious economic condition of the country.

During o Labor Day celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced a recovery package that would create “one million fresh jobs” and various forms of subsidies for MSMEs and the business sector

Meanwhile, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) also offered their online program involving 68 short courses from cookery to computer system servicing.  

TESDA Director General Secretary Isidro Lapeña, said on Friday that those displaced workers the youth to avail themselves of the different online courses offered by the agency and they can go to its web portals to register.  

“Para may magawa ang ating mga kababayan, we came up with the TESDA Online Program” said Lapeña adding that courses offered are attuned to the needs of our time and graduates can augment their income easily. Graduates can get a certificate of completion after taking the assessment test from an accredited technical schools.

The line of courses that the can avail of through online studies include cookery, bread and pastry production, massage therapy, housekeeping, beauty care service, hot and cold meals preparation, fruit growing and vegetable gardening, food and beverage service, diesel engine tune-up, battery servicing, computer system servicing, and many more.

Sec. Lapeña continued that “once na mag-normalize ang sitwasyon, kailangan mo magtake ng assessment kasi kailangan ng physical presence para ma-assess nila yung paggamit mo ng equipment at kung ang skills ay kwalipikado na.”

He also reminded that these courses are open to anyone regardless of age and for free as long as he or she is computer literate. Presently, about 152,000 have already enrolled in these courses.

House committees to hold hearings during break
