
MANILA – The Plan International Philippines, in cooperation with giant Telcos Globe Telecommunications and PLDT-Smart Communications, has launched an online seminar dubbed as “Cyber Talino Webinar,” on online sexual abuse and exploitation on children and young people. This is intended for parents, guardians, teachers, and duty-bearers, or collectively known as Cyber Guardians.
The recent post of Plan International says, “As our country deals with the Covid-19 crisis, we are also fighting a secret pandemic, the alarming prevalence of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children during enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). If children and young people are spending more time online since ECQ, so do online predators.”
It furthers says that Cyber Guardians need to be familiar with the channels and resources that help ensure children and young people are enjoying the benefits of the internet and are safeguarded against all forms of online violence.
This activity, which is part of the Cyber Safe Spaces Project is spearheaded by Plan International Philippines, with support from two major Telcos in the country to combat online violence by promoting live-saving child helplines and mechanisms.
The last episode was conducted on May 21, with speakers Miguel Bermundo from Globe, Jose “Wo” Rosete from Smart Communications, on board, and hosted by Renie Martin of Plan International Philippines.
