GENERAL SANTOS CITY – Mayor Ronnel Rivera said one of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who arrived on May 27 together with the others through an Elf truck, turned out to be Covid-19 positive.

This was disclosed Friday by Mayor Rivera through a post shared by Edwin Espejo, a local journalist, who stated that the OFW is a 33-year old lady and resident of General Santos City who worked as a domestic helper in Kuwait.

Mayor Rivera said she arrived on April 26 in Manila and a swab sample was taken from her on May 12 but she only got her result on May 26 when she was at the airport already.  She is found to be asymptomatic and now confined at the Dr. Jorge Royeca Hospital.

The mayor assured the public that she is well taken care of and the batch of OFWs that arrived with her are under strict quarantine watch by the City Health Office.

However, an Advisory by the local government unit of General Santos City dated May 30, 2020, stated that “No Confirmed Covid-19 Cases in the city. Out of two pending results of Covid Suspects, one result came out today as NEGATIVE—(the) patient (is) currently admitted at our Covid facility.”

The advisory continued that “All OFW repatriates have presented NEGATIVE RT-PCR results upon their arrival at the General Santos City International Airport, where an initial screening was done.  Our doctors and nurses from the City Health Office are monitoring their health status, and to date, they are ALL ASYMPTOMATIC and being temporarily quarantined in the hotels and pension houses.”

Espejo assailed that whoever posted this is stupid.  He stressed that asymptomatic are “persons who are Covid positive but are not exhibiting symptoms of the disease.”
