President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to be more careful in their transactions against businesses that use his name to make a profit.
“Huwag kayo magpaloko lalo na ‘yung mag gamit ng pangalan ko kasi ‘yung mag gamit ng pangalan ko, sigurado palpak ‘yan, raket ‘yan, krimen ‘yan,” he said in a public address.
[Don’t be fooled by those who use my name. That is a scam, a crime.]
“Kasi kung negosyo mo tama, walang problema, eh bakit gamitin mo pangalan ko?” he added.
[If the business is legal, why do you have to use my name?]
“Panahon sa lokohan, di naman talaga natatanggal ‘yan. There’s always a sucker born every minute,” he said.
[There are really many scams, we can’t deny that.]
The Department of Trade and Industry said it has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation, and the Philippine National Police to go after such businesses.
