President Rodrigo Duterte might deliver his penultimate State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July in a nontraditional way, Malacañang said Monday.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said plans for Duterte’s 5th SONA are still being finalized, but he hinted to a “blended” way of addressing the nation.
“That is being discussed. I think kung mayroon tayong blended learning, we will also have a blended SONA,” Roque said.
The Presidential Security Group assured the public that it is ready to safeguard Duterte for his 5th SONA should he decide to deliver it via teleconferencing or physically.
“We are ready for both video teleconferencing or actual,” PSG chief Col. Jesus Durante III affirmed.
Traditionally, government officials, lawmakers, and business leaders convene at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City, where the President delivers his SONA annually.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, mass gatherings are prohibited.
