Senator Manny Pacquiao plans to run in the presidential elections in 2022, according to his boxing promoter Bob Arum.
“I did a Zoom telephone call with him, ‘Bob, I’m gonna run in 2022 and, when I win, I want you there at my inauguration,’” Arum said.
The boxing champion’s political career began in 2007 when he ran and lost to Darlene Custodio as representative of South Cotabato’s First District. In 2010, he relocated his base to Saranggani, where he was eventually elected and re-elected in 2013 as representative.
In 2016, Pacquiao was elected as a senator and will serve a six-year term until 2022.
He infamously posted the worst attendance record for senators in the 3rd and last session of the 17th Congress in 2019.
