Actress Angel Locsin fears terror tag on Twitter

MANILA – “Kapamilya star” Angel Locsin who, aside from being a popular television and film actress, is also known for her charitable and humanitarian assistance to the poor and victims of calamities like the Covid-19 pandemic cannot hold her silence. 

She replied a tweet on social media of Senate President Tito Sotto, also an active member of the entertainment industry even after joining politics where Sotto “liked” the post of a certain I’m a brilliant idea@boykapesaying “She’s been a proNPA since day 1.”

Locsin replied in her Tweeter account to Senator Sotto “Saw that you liked this tweet.  And we have the right to voice out our opinions.  I hope we don’t get tagged as terrorist for doing so. Thank you.”

Acting alone or with some friends in the entertainment industry, Locsin has been raising funds to supply foods to the needy.  During the series of earthquakes in Davao region in the last quarter of 2019, she was seen in a local grocery store in Davao City buying supplies of food, water, medicines, and water containers for the victims in Makilala, North Cotabato and other municipalities in Davao del Sur.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, she started with fellow actress Anne Curtis in raising funds to purchase Covid-19 test kits.

Senator Sotto was pushing so hard for the passage of the anti-terrorism bill that is now awaiting the signature of the President in Malacañang.  Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed the receipt of the bill from congress and said the legislative measure is under scrutiny by palace officials. Unless vetoed by the president and returned to congress for review, the bill will lapse into law after 30 days from receipt.Human rights defenders, lawyers, and religious groups have opposed the passage of the law for certain “constitutional infirmities,” some vague provisions on the definition of terrorism, warrantless arrest, and long period of detention without filing of case in legal court.  

House committees to hold hearings during break
