DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio moderated the online launching of the Child Protection Policy Modules (CPPM) Tuesday that will be used by all public schools in its desire to sustain the city’s stature as a prime child-friendly city in the country.
In her launching message, the mayor emphasized the need for more people’s awareness about child abuse and situations the endanger the lives and future of children. “This is vital especially in this digital age as young people are exposed to various dangers online and offline as well,” she said.
She further said, “With these child protection policy modules, our children from Grades 1-12 will be armed with appropriate information and awareness, and will learn how to protect themselves from sexual abuse, exploitation, and discrimination.”
Davao City has been a Hall of Famer of the Presidential Search for the Most Child-friendly Cities and Provinces in Highly Urbanized City Category because of its pro-children laws, programs and child rights-sensitive initiatives. This yearly tilt is organized by the national Council for the Welfare of Children and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Among these initiatives are the passage of the Children’s Welfare Code, the creation of the Special Children’s Concerns Office, revitalization of the city’s Council for the Welfare of Children and the local council for the protection of children (LCPC), the Child Protection Policy, and now the launching of the CPPM.
Mayor Duterte-Carpio continued that “With today’s launch, we reaffirm our commitment to children, and we ask all Dabawenyos for your support and active involvement in all initiatives to protect our children from sexual abuse, exploitation, and discrimination, so they may face their future with hope and with confidence in who they are and what they can achieve.”
The city expects the CPPM will be integrated in DepEd’s curriculum of school children in public and hopefully in private schools as well once classes will open in August 24.
