Antipolo City is now the capital of Rizal province under a law recently signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Republic Act 11475, signed on June 19 and made public Monday, transferred the seat of government of Rizal province from Pasig City.

Sen. Francis Tolentino, who sponsored the law, said the legislation seeks to correct the decades-old historical error and gave Antipolo City its rightful designation as Rizal provincial capital.

Antipolo City first district Rep. Robbie Puno, the bill’s principal author in the House, said naming the city as provincial capital is long overdue.

[Antipolo City should be recognized as the capital of Rizal Province because our local government is here and is also recognized as the province’s center of trade, commerce, and tourism.]
