President Rodrigo Duterte’s upcoming State of the Nation Address in July is still likely to take place at the Batasan Complex amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, this time, no VIPs aside from incumbent lawmakers from the Senate and House of Representatives will be allowed to watch in the session hall.

“Ang mga informal naririnig ko, usap-usapan, tuloy pa rin sa House pero wala nang guests. So lahat ng congressmen and senators will occupy the gallery because of social distancing,” Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian shared.

“’Di ba, may tatlong floors ‘yung kanilang gallery eh. So doon na uupo ngayon ‘yung mga mambabatas,” he added.

Gatchalian clarified, however, that they have yet to hear the official plan from Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano regarding the SONA.
