The coming weeks would be crucial for the Philippines, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday, as it has observed a gradual but continuous increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with quarantine restrictions relaxed in several areas of the country.

Still, WHO regional director for the Western Pacific Takeshi Kasai recognize that Philippines is “one of the earliest countries to introduce a lockdown,” and this government policy prevented further infections and deaths, he said in an interview with ABS-CBN.

WHO’s earlier reports of Philippines being the country with the fastest-rising number of cases for the past 7 days have irked the Malacañang and Health Department.

As of 3 July 2020, Friday, there are 38,805 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 10,673 recoveries and 1,274 deaths in the Philippines.
