President Rodrigo Duterte told the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to prioritize the investigation into the alleged “misencounter” in Jolo, Sulu involving policemen and soldiers that left four soldiers dead, Malacañang said Wednesday.
These soldiers were Maj. Marvin Indammog, 39; Capt. Irwin Managuelod, 33; Sgt. Jaime Velasco, 38; and Cpl. Abdal Asula, 33. They were tailing four terrorist suicide bombers when the encounter happened.
“Hindi daw dapat nagpapatayan, nagi-engkuwentro ang parehong ideolohiya. At sabi niya, sana ito na ang huling misencounter sa kaniyang termino,” Roque said, mirroring the President’s words.
[He said those with the same ideology should not kill each other or get involved in an encounter. He said it should be the last misencounter under his term.]
On the other hand, the military said no encounter transpired since the soldiers “did not fire a single shot.”
In contrast with the Philippine Army’s statement, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has claimed that the incident was a “misencounter.”
