PH records 2,099 new COVID-19 cases, total cases surge to 46,333

Over 2,000 new COVID-19 cases has been logged anew in a single day by the Department of Health, bringing the Philippines’ cases to 46,333 on Monday.

DOH announced 2,099 new infections, 1,258 of which are “fresh” and 841 are labeled as “late.”

Recoveries now totals to 12,185, after 243 more have survived the virus. However, the death toll is now at 1,303 after 6 more patients succumbed to COVID-19 related disease. Active COVID-19 cases currently stand at 32,845, with the majority of the patients exhibiting mild symptoms.

Among the new cases, Metro Manila logged an additional 998 infections. Health Spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said that cases in the national capital region have been rising in the past two weeks, with the cities of Marikina, Muntinlupa, Quezon, and Makati emerging as COVID-19 hotspots.

A total of 11 hospitals in the metro have also reached full capacity of their intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients, the DOH said.

Central Visayas recorded 466 new cases, while other regions nationwide accounted for the 541. The other 94 are those who recently returned to the country.

The national positivity rate — or the percentage of those who tested positive for the virus out of the total number of tests — rose to 10.53% on July 2, from 6.67% on June 29.

The DOH reminded the public again to not be complacent and continue adhering to health protocols such as constant wearing of face masks, frequent hand washing, and physical distancing.
