PH logs 1,540 new COVID-19 cases in a day, total now at 47,873

1,540 new COVID-19 cases were logged Department of Health, bringing the total number of cases in the Philippines to 47,873.

The DOH said 993 of the new cases were classified as “fresh”, while 547 detected were tagged as “late” or part of the validation backlog of the agency.

Total recoveries are now 12,386 after 201 more patients survived from the virus. However, 6 more people succumbed to the disease, raising the death tally to 1,309.

Active cases currently stand at 34,178, according to the DOH.

619 of the new cases were recorded from Metro Manila, while Central Visayas account for the 174. Other regions had a cumulative total of 747 or nearly half of the latest infections.

To date, the Philippines has the second highest number of cases in Southeast Asia, after it surpassed Singapore’s coronavirus count on Monday. Indonesia remains at the top of the list with around 65,000 confirmed cases.

House committees to hold hearings during break
