BREAKING: PH logs highest single-day COVID-19 cases increase with 2,593; total cases breach 50,000-mark

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported all-time high single-day case increase with 2,539 new cases of COVID-19 infections, bringing the national tally to 50,359. This latest bulletin broke the previous record high of 2,434 logged just last Sunday, July 5.

1,922 of the new cases were classified as “fresh” cases, meaning they were detected within the last three days. The remaining 617 were labeled as “late”, those part of the validation backlog of the DOH.

1,066 or over 40 percent of the new cases came from Metro Manila, while Central Visayas accounted for the 443. Other regions nationwide had a tally of 1,030 infections.

The department also announced that 202 more patients have gotten well, raising the recoveries to 12,588.

Five more deaths were recorded, bringing the total count to 1,314. These figures bring the country’s active cases to 36,547.
