As the COVID-19 crisis continues to plague the entire country, President Rodrigo Duterte urged Filipinos to unite and help the government build a “better and more prosperous” Philippines.

“As we look to the future with much hope and positivity, let us continue to work together to build a better and more prosperous Philippines, and for ourselves and the next generation of Filipinos,” he said in a video message.

Duterte maintained his optimistic outlook despite the seemingly worsening COVID-19 situation in the country. He said unity and teamwork among Filipinos would help the government win the fight against the novel coronavirus.

“Numerous trials have tested our resolve these past few years but we always emerge victorious because of our unity and bayanihan (teamwork) as a people,” he said.

As of Wednesday, the Philippines has logged 50,359 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 12,588 recoveries and 1,314 fatalities.
