
On Thursday, the Department of Health recorded 1,395 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infected persons to 51,754
The health department said 1,184 of the new patients tested positive for the virus were classified as “fresh”, while the other 211 cases were part of the validation backlog.
No new fatality was recorded, a first since March 19. The death tally of the country remains at 1,314.
225 more COVID-19 patients recovered, raising the tally of recoveries to 12,813. This brings the country’s active cases to 37,627.
Metro Manila continued to lead with the most number of new infections, with 443, while Central Visayas accounted for the 290. Other areas had a cumulative total of 592. The remaining 70 are Filipinos who recently returned to the country.
Last Wednesday, the DOH reported a whopping 2,539 single-day increase, the latest all-time high record for the country. Majority of these came from Metro Manila.
The Department of Foreign Affairs also confirmed 30 new infections, 17 recoveries, and two more deaths among Filipinos residing abroad. The tallies currently stand at 8,792 cases, 5,254 recoveries, and 592 deaths.
The global case count has surpassed 12 million, with nearly 550,000 fatalities and over 6.5 million recoveries.
