COVID-19 cases in the country breached the 52,000 mark on Friday with the logging of 1,233 new infections, the Department of Health said. Today also marks the highest number of deaths in a day since three months ago.
Total cases in the Philippines is now at 52,914. Of the new cases, 848 were “fresh” or detected in the last three days while 385 were “late” or part of the DOH’s validation backlog.
Among the fresh cases, 405 were from Metro Manila, 30 from Central Visayas and 413 from other regions.
With 42 more fatalities, the death increased to 1,360. This is the highest in a day since April 12, when the DOH listed 50 deaths.
286 patients overcame the virus, bringing the number of people who have recovered to 13,230.
Currently, there are 38,324 active cases or those who are currently ill.
