Malacañang emphasizes that there is nothing wrong with President Rodrigo Duterte’s intent to compile evidence versus Rappler chief executive Maria Ressa, after his pronouncement that Ressa is a “fraud.”

“Iyan naman po ang trabaho – patuparin ang batas. So hayaan na po natin ang imbestigasyon at sa takdang panahon, ilalabas naman po iyan,” Presidential spokesman Harry Roque.

[That’s the job [of the President] – to implement the law. So let’s wait for the investigation to conclude and in proper time, the truth will be revealed.]

In a televised public address aired Wednesday at 1AM, Duterte revealed that he has been collecting documents for years now as proof to back his claim that Ressa is a “fraud.”

Ressa responded saying Duterte may just be “seeing too much fraud from where he sits.”

Duterte’s tirade against the renowned journalist came nearly a month after she was convicted of cyber libel.
