The Philippines logs another record of highest single-day coronavirus cases, with 4,063 new infections reported by the Department of Health on Friday, July 31. Previously, the record stood at 3,954 yesterday, July 30.
The new cases recorded brought the national tally to 93,354, surpassing China’s numbers based on the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
Yesterday, the DOH reported 38,075 new recoveries in the case bulletin. The reason for the surge of recoveries is the retagging of DOH of patients with mild or asymptomatic cases from active cases to recovered.
“Current recovery policies now show that at the 10th day of the illness, the risk of transmitting the virus to other people is significantly reduced,” the department said.
The DOH said this protocol is followed by the United States’ and European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as by India.
Worldwide, the disease has hit over 17 million people, with some 667,000 deaths and nearly 10 million recoveries.
