Velasco vowed to pass 2021 budget by Oct 16 -Sen. Sotto

Newly-elected House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco made a promise to pass the proposed P4.5-trillion 2021 budget before Congress suspends session for a month-long break this Oct 16, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Wednesday.

“No protocol necessary but we agreed to meet soon to discuss legislative matters,” Sotto said in a text message.

Sotto also said their meeting may be scheduled after this Friday, upon passage of the budget in the lower chamber.

“After Friday when he promised to pass budget on third reading as he told me.”

Sotto said he “hopes” that the Senate will have a good working relationship with Velasco and new House leaders.

“We had good relationships with the past leadership,” Sotto said.
