The Department of Education (DepEd) said that calls for the resignation of Secretary Leonor Briones is “fake.”

Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan denounced a report that thousands of public school teachers in Pangasinan are asking President Rodrigo Duterte to fire Briones for being “incompetent” and “too old.”

“That’s fake. There’s no such source for that,” he said during a press briefing.

“This is fake because the sources are supposedly three unnamed district supervisors but when we checked, we were told that no interview took place and no statement issued on this,”

The report came from a news article published in The Manila Times on Oct. 19.

In response to the searing article, which questioned her capacity to be DepEd chief due to her old age, Briones said she may be 80, but she’s proud.
