An official of the Department of Public Works and Highways is facing graft and corruption accusations before the Office of the Ombudsman as well as alleged involvement in partisan political activities.

The accused official is DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan, husband of Quezon Representative Helen Tan.

According to Quezon Councilor Arkie Yulde, the complainant, Tan hosted a party where the accused threw money in the air amounting to about P2.3-million.

Yulde also made a mention of Tan’s 600-sqm property in an exclusive and expensive subdivision located in Quezon City. Moreover, Yulde claimed that Tan had prevented barangay officials from attending meetings presided by Quezon Governor Danilo Suarez.

These claims were all immediately denied by Tan and explained how his children’s own businesses and properties were also declared in his wife’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net worth, hence the exorbitant wealth total.
