President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on his victory in the White House race.
In a statement, the president said that “the Philippines is committed to further enhancing the country’s long-standing relations with the United States under the Biden administration.”
“We look forward to working closely with the new administration of President-elect Biden anchored on mutual respect, mutual benefit, and shared commitment to democracy, freedom and the rule of law,” Malacañang’s statement said.
“Congratulations and we wish him all the best.”
Vice President Leni Robredo also extended her congratulatory message in a separate statement to Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris, the US’ first female and first African American vice president.
“Your victory is an affirmation of the shared ideals on which the long friendship between our two nations stand: democracy, civil rights, faith, and inclusivity. I pray for your success!” Robredo said in a tweet.
