In the time of a pandemic and other life-threatening disasters, what the Philippines need is a unified leadership to recover from the hardships it is facing, a lawmaker said.
Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said he was “not surprised” by President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest tirades against Vice President Leni Robredo.
“I’m no longer surprised, I’ve been on the receiving end in the past,” Drilon said, referring to Duterte’s name-dropping rant against him during the State of the Nation Address.
“We would like to appeal to everyone, the President and Vice President— at this time, let’s have a unified voice. Our people need undivided attention of the government. Politics can come later if we must say. But right now, given the extent of the damage, and the extent of the needs of our people… that is why there is a need for a united leadership at this point,” he added.
The top two officials of the Philippines have been in hot seats since Tuesday, when Duterte slammed Robredo for supposedly questioning his whereabouts when typhoon Ulysses hit several areas in Luzon last week.
