A ‘silent war’ has been reportedly brewing between allies of House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco in the lower chamber.
Allegedly, the infighting started when some lawmakers questioned the election of Davao Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte as the new chair of the committee on accounts. Reports have claimed that during a gathering of Velasco supporters in Rizal Park Hotel last November 10, AAMBIS OWA Partylist Rep. Sharon Garin jokingly brought up the committee chairmanship of the presidential son despite him not rallying behind the new Speaker.
The younger Duterte reportedly did not like the quip and confronted Garin, causing a commotion. It did not escalate any further.
To recall, Velasco promised Garin a committee post prior to ascending as the new leader of the House. Garin’s supposed election as head of ways and means committee did not come into fruition as incumbent chair Albay Rep. Joey Salceda refused to give way for a new leadership.
