Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana refuted claims that Metro Manila will be reverting back to modified enhanced community quarantine, explaining that no decision has been made on the matter.

Unsupported reports have been going around claiming that Metro Manila will return to MECQ on Saturday. An unsigned document has been shared in social media groups attached to this claim.

“This is not true,” Lorenzana said.

“I would like to inform the public that the current situation in Metro Manila is stable and manageable and does not warrant a shift back to MECQ,” he added.

This was echoed by Metro Manila police chief Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, saying that the document being circulated was not official since it had no signature.

Metro Manila’s general community quarantine status will remain until the rest of the year as the President earlier declared, Lorenzana emphasized.

Last Friday, Interior Department Secretary and task force vice chairman Eduardo Año announced the alarming 2,122 new COVID-19 cases in a day in the country, the highest record in over a month.
