Palace: PRRD will announce vaccine he’ll use, still prefers Chinese brand

President Rodrigo Duterte himself will be the one to inform the public of the vaccine he will use, but his preference for Chinese brands is still a major consideration, according to Malacañang.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online briefing on Thursday that Duterte had already made a decision on which drug maker to tap.

“I know of the decision of the President. I can say that the President’s decision is consistent, he prefers Chinese but I’m not at liberty to make public that decision,” said Roque.

“The President himself will make that pronouncement himself,” he added.

Malacañang said earlier this week that the President’s physician will be the one to decide for him, amid the expected arrival of US and UK vaccines in the country this month.

Roque said China will give the Philippines a total of 600,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines by February 23, while the arrival of the Pfizer vaccines in the country still remains unclear.
