Concerned groups led by US-based Filipinos appealed for help from US President Joe Biden himself to fast-track the delivery of the initial doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine procured by the Philippines.

Through a letter addressed to Biden, they emphasized the urgency of their request as the Philippines continue to battle surges of COVID-19 cases, more than a year after the start of the pandemic.

The groups asked the US leader to “advocate for the immediate release of five million Moderna [vaccine doses] by May and not to wait until July 2021.”

“The situation is dire, and the Philippines needs immediate help.”

A copy of the April 14 letter signed by representatives from the US Medicare in the Philippines, Philippine Humanitarian Coalition, Philippine Medical Association of Metro Washington DC, and US Filipinos for Good Governance was shared during an online forum held on Wednesday (Thursday in the Philippines).

Three COVID-19 vaccines are being used in the US: Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson. All of them are American firms.
