Mayor Junard Chan of Lapu-Lapu, Cebu expressed hope that foreign tourists who have completed their coronavirus vaccine shots will soon be allowed to enter their city.

“Now we are appealing to Honorable Sec. Harry Roque to help us to lobby with [Health Secretary] Dr. [Francisco] Duque, the IATF head, to allow entry of foreigner tourists who are fully vaccinated and prior to the departure to their point of origin to have…a [negative] RT-PCR [test] so that the tourism industry of Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu will be back,” said the local chief executive during a briefing on Tuesday.

Apart from the city’s rich history, Chan claimed that Lapu-Lapu is renowned for having white sand beaches and crystal-blue waters. The city also houses the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, allowing it to be a gateway to the entire province.

Foreign nationals are currently not allowed to enter the country until end of April, except for those on essential travel as earlier determined by the National Task Force Against COVID-19.
