MANILA – The government of Quezon City commenced its night-shift Covid-19 vaccination program called “QC Bakuna Nights” on Wednesday.

In a statement, Mayor Joy Belmonte mentioned this in order to address the demand of essential workers belonging to the A4 priority category.

Para ito sa mga manggagawa natin na hindi naman makaliban sa kanilang trabaho para makapagpabakuna sa karaniwang oras na 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lalo na ‘yung mga arawan ang sahod (This is for our workers who are unable to skip their 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. work for a day just to be able to receive the vaccine, most especially those whose salary is on a daily basis),” Belmonte said.

Around 2,000 essential workers that belong to the A4 priority category, and who have pre-enlisted with the city government will be vaccinated at the Quezon City Hall grounds on Wednesday.

According to Belmonte, they perceive the anguish of most laborers who are uncertain whether to file a leave from work or to be absent just to be immunized against Covid-19.

She included that the program intends to broaden the city’s reach and allow many A4 workers who are only available after office hours or in the evening to be vaccinated.

Ngayon, hindi na nila kailangang mamili kung arawang kita ba muna o bakuna (Now they don’t have to choose between their daily wage or the vaccine). We will inoculate them at a time most convenient to them,” Belmonte said.

According to QC Task Force Vax to Normal co-chair Joseph Juico, the QC Bakuna Nights would first operate for four days, from Wednesday to Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. because of the Covid-19 vaccines’ scarcity.

QC Bakuna Nights will continue if more supplies are given to the city and may indeed be extended to other locations.

The city administration has apportioned 2,000 dosages of Covid-19 immunizations each night for the first four days of the campaign.
