MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, stated on Thursday that the anti-illegal drug campaign is one of the Duterte administration’s major accomplishments.

Eleazar’s statement follows Presidential Spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque’s evaluation that the administration’s accomplishments include the anti-illegal drugs operation.

“Out of 42,045 barangays, 21,891 barangays have been cleared. Ngayon lang nangyari ito sa kapanahunan ng Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte (This only happened during the term of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte),” Eleazar said.

According to recent official data, a total of 289,622 suspects have been arrested and 6,117 suspects have been killed during the 200,632 anti-illegal drug operations by various law enforcement authorities since 2016.

The entire worth of illicit drugs and laboratory equipment seized during these anti-drug operations was estimated to be PHP59.14 billion.

Eleazar promised that the PNP will continue to be tenacious in its anti-illegal drug operations and efforts to eradicate the illegal drug trade.

In Trece Martires City, Cavite, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed almost PHP1.2 billion worth of hazardous drugs last week.

Last year, the Supreme Court (SC) ordered that all regional trial courts (RTCs) handling illicit drug cases speed up their inspections and mandate the rapid disposal of confiscated illegal drugs used as evidence.
