MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is actively monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs), according to a weather forecaster on Friday.
“One has no direct effect on any part of the country, but the one that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) last night could possibly develop into a tropical cyclone,” Shelly Ignacio of PAGASA said.
It was recently spotted 1,240 kilometers east of northern Luzon. Despite the fact that this LPA has a limited likelihood of making landfall, Ignacio stated that it will enhance the southwest monsoon in the next days.
She said the other LPA was last seen 240 kilometers northwest of Laoag City, outside PAR.
Ignacio also mentioned that both LPAs would be regularly checked.
Moreover, the southwest monsoon hitting southern Luzon and the Visayas is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Friday over Mimaropa, Western Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Zambales, and Bataan.
Flooding is possible with moderate to severe rainfall.
The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers as a result of localized thunderstorms.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail across the whole archipelago.
