MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) declared on Wednesday that voter registration and issuance voter certification will be suspended in some locations in the country that have been placed under a stricter community quarantine.
The poll commission announced in a Facebook post that voter registration and voter certification will be suspended in all Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) in many towns and cities in the province of Cebu.
The towns of Samboan, Sibonga, Argao, Cordova, Oslob, Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla, and the cities of Talisay, Carcar, and Naga, were placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) beginning Wednesday.
From August 9 to 23, voter registration is also suspended in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, which is under MECQ.
Due to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), OEOs in Tuguegarao City will temporarily halt processing voter registrants and issuing voter certificates from Aug. 12 to 21.
Satellite registration in barangays, malls, and other venues in the affected areas has also been suspended, according to the poll body.
Earlier, after Metro Manila was placed under ECQ from August 6 to 20, election-related activities in the National Capital Region were postponed.
In order to stop the spread of the Delta variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), a stricter community quarantine has been enforced.
On September 30, the national voter registration period will come to a close.
