MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced on Wednesday that the third-quarter online national simultaneous earthquake drill will take place on September 9.

According to NDRRMC deputy spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal, the ceremonial pressing of the drill button begins at 9 a.m.

“We continue to hold (our) NSED online, complemented by webinars on disaster preparedness so that our people can continue getting prepared and stay safe despite this (coronavirus disease 2019 – Covid-19) pandemic,” Timbal said.

The earthquake drill in September will be the fifth virtual holding since it began in the third quarter of last year.

“We are (also) holding three webinars that target various sectors, including the youth, urban poor, workers, MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises), etc. so that the discussion is custom-made to their needs and the circumstances,” he added.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on the Civil Defense PH and NDRRMC Facebook pages, and viewers are encouraged to “duck, cover, and hold” in their houses and offices as the ceremonial alarm sounds.

Due to the pandemic, evacuation drills and simulation scenarios are still on hold.

The first-quarter earthquake drill took place on March 11, while the second-quarter drill, on June 10.
