MANILA – The Senate resumed its discussion on Monday regarding the proposed legislation that would regulate the use, importation, and sale of vaporized nicotine products (VNPs) and electronic cigarettes.

Vaping will be permitted only in designated areas and in the absence of minors under the proposal.

Bill author Senator Ralph Recto noted studies conducted by health groups that decisively shown utilizing electronic nicotine delivery devices instead of traditional combustible cigarettes minimizes exposure to hazardous gases and carcinogens associated with traditional cigarettes.

Senator Joel Villanueva discussed prospective revisions to the bill during the interpellation, including broadening the need that buyers of VNP products give evidence of age even to online sellers, as well as the possibility of expanding the prohibition on VNP events and promotional activities.

The selling of VNPs is prohibited 100 meters within schools, playgrounds, and other locations frequented by minors.
