DOH detects more than 600 new cases of Omicron BA.5 subvariant

MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported that 624 additional cases of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) have been detected in the country.

According to the DOH, 605 of the total cases are from all the regions while the remaining 19 are returning overseas Filipinos.

Of the 605 infections, about 26 from Ilocos Region, 33 from Cagayan Valley, 41 from Central Luzon, 22 from Bicol Region, six from Western Visayas, 35 from Central Visayas, five from Zamboanga Peninsula, one from Northern Mindanao, five from Davao Region, 56 from Soccsksargen, 61 from Region 4-A (Calabarzon), 15 from Region 4-B (Mimaropa), six from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, 119 from Cordillera Administrative Region, 40 from Caraga and 134 from the National Capital Region.

There were also 13 additional BA.4 cases — eleven from Soccsksargen, one each from Central Luzon and Central Visayas.

Meanwhile, the DOH also detected one case of BA.2.12.1 from Central Luzon.

All reported cases are based on the most recent results of genome sequencing as of September 2.
