NDRRMC: Karding-affected population exceeds 1 million

MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday stated that the number of individuals impacted by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding, which hit Luzon last week, has increased to 1,074,141.

This corresponds to 299,519 families in 1,922 barangays in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and National Capital Region.

According to the NDRRMC, only 780 families or 3,574 individuals are still in 23 evacuation centers with the rest either returning home or seeking shelter with families and friends.

The death toll stands at 12, with five people still missing.

Eight of the deaths have been confirmed, with the remaining four and the five missing still being validated.

As of this time, about 67 injuries were also reported of which only two are confirmed.

Damaged houses also have increased to 60,254 in Regions 1, 2, 3, Calabarzon, and the CAR.

Approximately 52,513 are classified as partially damaged, and 7,741 are classified as completely damaged.

House committees to hold hearings during break
