MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) has asked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to extend again the Covid-19 state of calamity/emergency in the country because the pandemic is not completely over in 2023.
DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that they have submitted a memorandum to the President to request the extension of the state of calamity on Covid-19, which is set to end on December 31.
This is after the bill creating the Philippine Center for Disease Prevention and Control, which will continue the country’s programs for the Covid-19 response, was not immediately passed.
To date, they are just waiting for the official response of the President’s office to their request.
Proclamation No. 922 was first implemented in March 2020, declaring a state of public health emergency in the country, due to the Covid-19 outbreak. MarcosM extended it in September until the end of the year 2022.
