MANILA — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday reported that it completed more than 16,000 sub-projects under its initiative targeting to help marginalized communities last year.
Under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) program, the DSWED was able to finish 16,975 subprojects with initiatives including infrastructure developments, livelihood programs, and community facilities.
“Since its inception in 2003, KALAHI-CIDSS has garnered an annual average of 5,000 completed subprojects, but because of the retooling efforts of the Department, the program was able to achieve its highest number of completed subprojects in 2023,” the DSWD spokesperson, Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said in a statement.
KALAHI-CIDSS, he added, uses a Community-driven Development (CDD) approach to empower poor communities by “enhancing local governance, promoting social inclusion, and fostering sustainable development via active community participation.”
According to DSWD, it will continue implementing the projects in line with its commitment to promote “inclusive and sustainable development across the nation” for this year.
