MANILA — The Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines Inc. (PHAPI) has expressed support for the proposed measure to provide 50 percent coverage for members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) who are admitted to private hospitals.

“That is a good proposal because it will increase the benefits of members… If it goes up to 50 percent, it will be better,” PHAPI president Dr. Jose de Grano said yesterday.

De Grano stated that PhilHealth possesses adequate funds to extend benefits for its members. Apart from the budget allocation from Congress, De Grano highlighted the substantial funds sourced from members’ premiums.

However, he voiced apprehension regarding PhilHealth’s ability to settle claims for PHAPI members if benefits have already been provided to patients.

PhilHealth executives have also voiced their endorsement for enhancing benefits for their members. PhilHealth stated that part of its mandate is to enhance benefit packages to facilitate easier access to healthcare services for Filipinos.
