MANILA – Private schools are not obligated to change school calendars.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Bringas made this clear after announcing recently that they will gradually return to the old school calendar of June to March and summer vacation of April and May.

Bringas said that some private schools have already opened classes in June and July, 2023 for SY-2023-2024.

He also said that some opened the school year in August, at the same time as the opening of classes in public schools.

Bringas explained, “‘Yung mga private schools na sumabay sa public schools na nag-open ng August, hindi naman sila mandatory na mag-adjust ng kanilang school calendars.” “They still have the option to maintain their approved calendar or adjust accordingly.”

On February 19, DepEd issued an order setting the end of the school year on May 31, 2024. It also stated that this year’s school break will begin on June 1 and end on July 29, 2024.

SY 2024-2025 will open on July 29, 2024 and end on May 16, 2025.
