NDRRMC: 11 confirmed deaths due to ‘Karding’ so far

MANILA — The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Thursday reported that the death toll from Typhoon Karding (Noru) has increased to 11.

According to NDRRMC, the additional death was from Antipolo, Rizal who died of drowning.

Previously, the bureau reported 10 deaths in Central Luzon and Calabarzon. Eight of them have been verified, including the rescuers in Bulacan province.

NDRRMC also reported that five fishermen from Camarines Norte and one person from Rizal were missing.

NDRRMC stated in its most recent report 176,337 families or 640,963 individuals have been affected by Karding in Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol region.

There were a total of 6,435 families in evacuation centers, while 3,482 households remained in the houses of relatives and friends.

The strongest storm to hit the Philippines this year, Karding, brought heavy rains and strong winds that caused flooding, landslides, and damaged crops.

The disaster agency also claimed that 5,439 farmers and fishermen were hit by the storm in Ilocos region, CAR, Calabarzon, and Bicol region. Also affected were some 8,081,21 hectares of agricultural land.

The agricultural damage caused by Karding has reached P152.2 million, with production loss estimated at 6,921,68 metric tons.

House committees to hold hearings during break
