Bulacan 1st district Cong. “Kuya” Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado belied claims circulating all over social media that said franchise issue of ABS-CBN can be resolved if the media giant sincerely offer its apologies to President Rodrigo Duterte.

A Facebook page “Kapamilya Online World” claimed that Sy-Alvarado made this statement after the House committee on legislative franchises denied the franchise renewal application of the network.

In a Facebook post as well, Sy-Alvarado, vice chair of the said house committee, called it ‘fake news’ along with a full transcript of his interview with Super Radyo DZBB to put context with what he said.

According to the congressman, what he said is only a response to the host’s question of the possibility of franchise renewal of the media corporation while under the administration of Duterte.

He emphasized that the Malacañang does not have to do with the decision of the lower chamber regarding the franchise.

“Ako po ay naniniwala dito kasi ni isang beses po ay hindi po kami nakarinig ng tawag sa Malacañang,” Sy-Alvarado said.

[I believe in this because I did not receive even one call or directive from the Malacañang.]

In a 70-11 vote, the House Committee on Legislative Franchises denied the 25-year franchise application of ABS-CBN.
