As Filipinos enter the seventh month of lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19, recent data showed that many areas in the country are still considered high-risk for coronavirus transmission.

Areas considered to be high-risk for transmission are as follows:

  • Batangas
  • Benguet
  • Cavite
  • Davao del Sur
  • Iloilo
  • Laguna
  • Misamis Oriental
  • Negros Occidental
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Quezon
  • Pangasinan
  • Rizal
  • South Cotabato
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Western Samar
  • Zamboanga del Sur

UP OCTA Research Group reiterated that strengthened testing, tracing, and isolation in these areas should be continued.

“They’re at critical levels in terms of healthcare and we think that’s a major factor in our recommendation to revert a more strict quarantine. I think it’s feasible because we did it before in Cebu and look what happened. Cebu, we actually now consider a low-risk area,” Dr. Guido David of the UP research team said in an interview.

For the fifth straight day, the Philippines logged less than 3,000 new COVID-19 cases.
