Malacañang hinted on President Rodrigo Duterte’s action over some provisions in the proposed 2021 General Appropriations Act, assuring that the president’s veto power will not be forgotten.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the pronouncement days before the ceremonial signing of the proposed PHP4.5-trillion national budget for 2021.

‘Sigurado po na magkakaroon po ng veto message,” Roque responded when asked if Duterte will veto items in the proposed budget plan.

The spokesman did not elaborate on which provisions will be removed in the budget proposal, adding that the Department of Budget and Management will advise the president on certain items that should be vetoed.

“Inaasahan din na aaprubahan din po ng Presidente yung mga naging rekomendasyon ng DBM. Meron pong mga recommended for veto.”

Duterte is expected to sign the budget bill into law during his stay in Davao City, specifically on December 28.

Around five representatives each from the Senate and the House of Representatives are expected to witness the signing of the proposed budget for 2021.
