PH records highest number of new COVID-19 recoveries, also reports over 11K new infections

New cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines reached 11,028 on Sunday, bringing the country’s total to 795,051. This was the third straight day that new infections breached 10,000.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health also recorded 41,205 new recoveries, the highest number since the start of the pandemic, increasing the total number of Filipinos who recovered from the virus to 646,100. 

This means that the Philippines has a total of 135,526 active cases as of 4 p.m. Sunday.

Two additional deaths were reported from the disease, bringing the death toll for COVID-19 in the country to 13,425.

Sunday’s record however excludes data from 5 laboratories that were not able to submit on time. 

For the past 7 days, the country has reported an average of 10,465 new infections a day. 

It was also noted that the positivity rate is now at 22.7 percent. 

A positivity rate of 5 percent or lower for at least 14 days is recommended by the World Health Organization before reopening the economy. 

The government is aiming to ramp up contact-tracing in the National Capital Region and nearby provinces, which were placed on enhanced community quarantine for one more week until April 11.
