A poll commissioner urged local officials to prioritize the vaccination of election officers and assistants to fast-track the barangay voter registration.

Voter registration has resumed again in Metro Manila and nearby provinces after the NCR Plus shifted to general community quarantine with heightened restrictions until end of May.

“Hinihiling po namin sa mga mayor, bakunahan na po ang election assistants and election officers para makapagregister na sa mga barangay,” Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in an interview.

Guanzon stressed that poll officers are considered frontliners too, especially now that the country is only a year away from another national election.

“Nananawagan po ako kung maaari, frontliner din naman po kami.”

Comelec’s “new normal committee” is expected to finalize its guidelines for next year’s election this month or in June, Commissioner Antonio Kho earlier reported.
