MANILA—Secretary Karlo Alexi Nograles, spokesperson of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases in a virtual presser Wednesday said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will enforce stricter implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) order.

Nograles cited the report of the PNP that it had already arrested more than 108,000 ECQ violators since the lockdown was imposed.  “Marami na ring violators na naaresto sa mga checkpoints lalo na dito sa Metro Manila ngunit marami pa ring makikitang gumagala. That is why the police will strictly scrutinize the identity of traveling individuals if they are included in the list of Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR) as stated in the DOH guidelines,” Nograles said.

Within the week, Nograles further said, the PNP will conduct inspection on private vehicles at checkpoints in major highways and barangay roads to ensure that only those in the APOR will be allowed to proceed to their destination.  He continued that appropriate penalties and fines will be slammed against violators to give lesson that government is dead serious about this campaign to end this crisis.

Earlier, PRRD lambasted some mayors and local government executives particularly in Metro Manila and Luzon for their lousy implementation of the said order of the DOH on ECQ.
